Central High School

Project Overview

Central High School is a 150-year-old institution and the first African American high school in Kentucky. The school has become an important historical landmark for Louisville and is situated within a complex landscape in an African American community.

DesignJones was tasked with developing a master plan for the school and its surrounding neighborhoods. Through site visits, surveys, meetings, and collaboration with faculty, students, staff, and community members, the plan addresses outdoor learning, campus improvements, mobility and circulation, African American cultural connections, and sustainable stormwater management.
