The Omega Harvard Campus Master Plan
Dayton, Ohio
The Omega Harvard Master Plan places a strong emphasis on ecological restoration and historic preservation. In response to an earlier conceptual plan that would have removed essential vegetation and erased much of the historic landscape originally crafted by the Olmsted Brothers, Omega CDC partnered with DesignJones and Biohabitats to conserve the site's natural and cultural heritage.
Recognizing the site's designation as a historically significant landscape due to the Olmsted Brothers’ contributions, DesignJones advocated for the preservation of key design elements. This includes maintaining the iconic oval loop at the campus center and protecting the surrounding naturalized areas—green spaces that have become deeply valued by the local community. Further analysis of the campus revealed a significant lack of native vegetation and highlighted a critical need for stormwater ravine restoration.
The updated master plan addresses these challenges by replanting native trees, restoring the existing ravines, and introducing sustainable, nature-based stormwater management strategies. It also seeks to improve the pedestrian experience with a thoughtfully designed network of pathways that connect the campus while honoring its historic character.
