Tamir Rice Memorial

Cleveland, Ohio

The Tamir Rice Memorial makes sacred a space of devastating injustice in the remembrance of a vibrant young Black child full of possibilities. Situated on 0.25 acres of public land, Tamir Rice’s Memorial is at once, the site of his tragic death, as well as the heart and soul of a vibrant 11-acre park space, Cudell Commons.   The Memorial was designed to become the focal point of a statement against police violence towards African Americans and a celebration of youth, enlivened by surrounding institutions within the commons including walkways, wooded areas, a playground, play fields, the historic Cudell Fine Arts Center, the Cudell Recreation Center and Seltzer Elementary School. The common sits within the working class, Cudell neighborhood on the westside of Cleveland, Ohio.  The opening ceremony for the site design was held on Saturday, July 16, 2022.
