Tamir Rice Memorial

Project Overview

The Tamir Rice Memorial transforms a site of devastating injustice into a sacred place of remembrance for a vibrant young Black child full of possibility. Located on 0.25 acres of public land, the memorial marks the site of Tamir Rice’s tragic death while serving as the heart and soul of the surrounding 11-acre park at Cudell Commons.

Designed as both a statement against police violence toward African Americans and a celebration of youth, the memorial is surrounded by community institutions, walking paths, wooded areas, a playground, play fields, the historic Cudell Fine Arts Center, the Cudell Recreation Center, and Seltzer Elementary School. The memorial opened on July 16, 2022.
