Viridian Nature Preserve boardwalk and native landscape

Project Overview

Viridian Nature Preserve is an example of how a space can be reimagined for the community while still providing a lasting amenity within a residential neighborhood.

A small section of the beach is preserved to allow quiet sand play for children and a respite for the birdlife that frequents the area. Signage is provided along the pathway to offer an educational approach to how native plant material has an impact on the environment.

The developers of Viridian had the idea of providing a beach as an inviting space for the community, not just the residents, and it was successful for many years. However, with a jump in misuse, a committee was created to discuss a new use of the area. DesignJones LLC provided a new concept for the beach by creating a boardwalk and planting to encourage an educational and relaxing nature walk, while creating spaces of contemplation for users.

The nature preserve encourages the community to embrace a sustainable and respectful atmosphere, not just for the boardwalk area, but for their own living spaces.
